Google ara project
Say Hello to Ara
We finally know how will be the first modular phone from Google, and it’s called “Ara“
What is a modular smartphone?
A modular phone is a cellphone that can be upgraded through the attachment or replacement of discrete components.
Customers only pay for the features they use and can upgrade as needs and technologies change. Replacing components is less expensive than replacing the phone.
The Project Ara smartphone will allow everyone to build their own perfect smartphone, the way they want using only the component they need..
Where one person may want to spend more money on a digital map another may wish to have a better camera and some other splash out on more memory. Whatever the desired goal a user should be able to modify their device to suit that need.
The Smartphone was the first step, ARA is the revolution
ARA will completely change our way of life, consuming and producing. With ARA you’ll now be able to have a phone totally yours with the components you only need from your favorite brands. The idea is to create modular smartphones that can be easily upgraded and customized.
When is Project Ara launching and for how much?
Project Ara doesn’t have an official released date, but the Project Ara team is working toward a limited market pilot in 2015. The only information that has been given from Google about that pilot, it that it will take place in Puerto Rico in Q1 2015.
And for how much?
An entry-level Ara device is expected to be between $50-100, though that’s just the “bill-of-materials cost”. The Project Ara team said the final price with a carrier contract could be more or less than that.
